Chief of Staff,  he confirmed that Governor Brown has signed AB 1047
Jefferies OUR ABATE SPONSORED  BILL INTO LAW  OUTLAWING MOTORCYCLE
CHECKPOINTS BY ANY LAW ENFORCEMENT ADGENCY IN CALIFORNIA!!!

We now become the 3rd State to outlaw MOTORCYCLE ONLY CHECKPOINTS!!!

 

 It took two years of hard work to get our bill through both Transportation
Committees, the Assembly and Senate Appropriations Committees' passed by bot
Houses and then returned to the Assembly for concurrence to a STRONGER
amended bill.  final passage 77-0  Assembly vote!

 

Persistence pays off! See you all at the Leg/Pac/Board meeting in Hesperia

As discussed at the recent SO Cal COC meeting, a protest of the LA Calendar Motorcycle Show at the Calabasas Inn has been planned.  Over the past few years, admittance has been denied to motorcyclists that either appear intimidating (their words) and/or chose to wear a club cut.  A peaceful protest has been planned to demonstrate to the event promoters and vendors, that as motorcyclists, we find this type of action both offensive and discriminating.

A Message from the Executive Director

of

ABATE of California

 

     On July 10, California Governor Jerry Brown signed Assembly Bill 1890
into law, which allows motorcyclists to store their transponders out of
sight when traveling on toll roads.

      AB 1890 was introduced by Assemblyman Jose Solorio on Feb. 22, 2012.
The bill changes the requirement for toll road transponders to be mounted in
a visible location, which on a motorcycle is subject to loss and theft to
allow transponders to be stored in a pocket, pouch or bag for security
purposes. The Assembly passed AB 1890 by a vote of 77-0 April 16, and the
Senate approved it on June 18 with a vote of 33-0.

     On July 13, California Governor Jerry Brown signed  Assembly Bill 1047
into law, which prohibits motorcycle-only checkpoints.

     AB 1047 was introduced by Assemblyman Kevin Jeffries on Feb. 18, 2011.
The bill prohibits law enforcement agencies from establishing checkpoints
where the only vehicles subject to inspection are motorcycles. The Assembly
passed AB-1047 by a vote of 55-5 on Jan. 17, and the Senate approved it on
June 28 by a vote of 36-0.

     These laws will take effect on Jan. 1, 2013. This is a great
accomplishment for the entire motorcycling community and is due mainly to
the efforts of many individuals and groups writing letters and supporting
ABATE of California in our continuous efforts to defend the privileges,
rights and freedoms of motorcycle riders in California.

      ABATE of California along with the U.S. Defenders Program, the MMA,
and the AMA applaud Assemblyman Jeffries and Assemblyman Solorio for
introducing these bills and thank Governor Brown for his signature.
